CALDERWOOD, Edward H.S. passed away at age 97 on May 17, 2021 in Coquitlam, BC.
Ed was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1924 and moved with his wife (Dorothy nee Leonard) and three children {Robert, Richard (Colleen) and Cheryl (Spencer)} to BC in 1965.
Edward and Dorothy married in 1949 in Montreal and were happily together for 69 years until her death in 2018. They spent the last few years of their lives living at the Madison Care Home in Coquitlam, BC.
He was a loving brother, predeceased by his siblings Douglas (Gladys), Dorothy, Lilian (Hanson), brother-in-law James and survived by his sister Helen as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family back in Montreal.
Ed was a WW2 veteran having served in the Royal Navy aboard submarines and minesweepers as a radio operator. He had been a radio amateur since 1938. After working for 42 years with Bell Tel in Montreal and then BC Tel (now Telus), he retired at the age of 65. A year later, he started the Coquitlam (Senior) Amateur Radio Emergency Services Society and remained the president of the club until 2003. Being a radio amateur was a lifelong passion that he would continue until months before his death. It allowed him to make connections with people all over the world. He even had his radios operating from his room in the care home.
His wife, family, friends, radios and his faith were all very important to him. He will be missed by many, especially his children, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
