Predeceased by his mother Ethel Brevner in 2001.
Roy will be missed my his half siblings and numerous nieces and nephews in the US. He will be missed especially by his “adopted sister” Esla Lynch in Toronto and all her family.
Fitzroy “Roy” Brevner was born in Trinidad in the Caribbean. He moved to Canada in 1955, attended UBC and completed a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He developed long lasting friendships with his Chem Eng 65 grads.
As a chemical Engineer he worked in Trail, BC and in Pine Point in the NWT for Cominco Mines.
He traveled extensively to Scandinavia as a HR recruiter for Cominco.
When Pine Point became too cold for a man from the Caribbean, he came back to Vancouver where he ended up as a bus driver for BC Hydro/BC Transit from where he retired in 1988. He also developed long lasting friendship at the Bus company.
He enjoyed his retirement and there was never a dull moment. He enjoyed entertaining, parties were his specialty. He loved cooking for his family and friends. And of course Hastings Park was one of his favorite places to be.
Roy was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend to all those who knew him. He had a wry sense of humor, and was always making jokes and loved having his family & friends around him. He had a collection of tapes and always had calypso music on, which got louder and louder over the years as his hearing deteriorated.
He returned to TT for the Carnival as often as he could, almost every year for a while and was always delighted to be with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing Mas, and would check out the pan yards where the steel bands would practice.
He taught his family very valuable lessons whether it was how to cook, be patient or kind or how to bet on the ponies or play blackjack. He was always smiling and having a laugh. He had an infectious smile and a personality that made people gravitate to him and he was able to make people feel welcome in his home.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him as he touched the lives of many.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on July 26th, 2022 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 315 Walker Street, Coquitlam, BC
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sancta Maria house, Covenant House or UGM.
Our thanks to the Home care nurses and workers of Fraser Health, who made him comfortable right up until the end.
