Galina Ostrovskaia

June 7, 1937 — August 14, 2024

If you wanted to try to sum up Galina in a word, the only choice would be "indescribable". She was the sort of person you could write a book about and still have hardly scratched the surface. No matter how long you knew her, she would still say things that would surprise you.

She was a very traditional woman in some ways, but very progressive, sometimes shockingly so, in others. She found joy in all the small moments in life, and shared it with everyone around her.

She was an incredible cook, with the sort of instincts in the kitchen that can only be earned through time, effort, and patience. Nobody ever left her home hungry.

She always thought of others, and any time you saw her there was a decent chance she would have something for you that she found in her travels and thought you might like.

She made friends effortlessly wherever she went and left a wonderful impression on everyone who knew her. Her family and friends will all carry a hole in their lives shaped exactly like her. She will be truly missed and the world is a little less bright for her passing.

Galina passed away on August 14, 2024 at the age of 87, after a brief illness, in New Westminster British Columbia. She is survived by her daughter Tatiana Ostrovsky, granddaughter Nadia Grant, Nadia’s husband, Liam Grant, and great-grandson Alex Grant.

There will be a service for those who would like to say their last goodbye to Galina on the 27th August, at 3:00PM, Kearney Funeral Service, 219 6th Street, New Westminster, BC

In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made in Galina’s name to Royal Columbia Hospital Foundation.
