Gerard, or Gerry as he was fondly know, was born in Dublin City, to an industrious and entrepreneurial family on Sept 7, 1942. He was a devoted son to arguably his favourite person in the world, his Mam Eileen. It was the spirit in which he cared for her, that drew his beautiful wife of 57 years , Catherine (Kay) to him. Once married, they bravely immigrated to Canada, not once but twice where they finally settled in Vancouver continuing to raise their three children Sharon, John-Paul and Garreth.
Gerry was a husband, father, grandpa, Pop, son and brother. He loved his family fiercely in all his complicated ways.
In his younger years, he was a self-taught woodworker making beautiful furniture, and avid windsurfer. He enjoyed sports cars, specifically his beloved Prelude and long drives, anytime of the day or night. He took great pride in his grill skills on the barbecue, the immaculate state of his lawn, tinkering in the garage. And he had a singular inability to cope, if you borrowed something of his without returning it in a timely manner.
He was meticulous, never late, often exacting. His sense of humour was as dry as a good gin and tonic he was partial to, never mind his wine. He loved the sun, and lounging by a pool preferably in Mexico where he and Kay vacationed many times.
Gerry is also survived by his three grandsons, and he had a very special relationship with Lukas, followed closely by Jakob and Logan.
Predeceased by his Mam Eileen, his father John, older brother and childhood tormentor Rollo.
He will be dearly missed by his loving sister Olive (Tommy) and her supportive husband Brian, sister Joan (Buddy), sister in law Avril, brother Phillip (Catherine), along with his many nieces and nephew.
Deeply missed, and forever in our hearts.
