Gheorghe Nistor

March 5, 1936 — June 21, 2015

Born on 5th of March 1936, Gheorghe was the third child of Ioan and Eudochia Nistor, a modest family from Rod, a mountain village in Transylvania. He grew up during the Second World War, together with his 3 brothers and sister, tending the farm animals and attending the local school. As a child he was fascinated watching his oldest brother repairing watches, and developed a passion for fine mechanics. His dream was to become a pilot or an engineer, but life had other plans for him. At age of 15 he moved to the city of Timisoara, where he attended the Trades School of Civil Constructions. After 3 years of mandatory military service he became a foreman in his trade and worked in Hunedoara for a few years. In 1966 he married Maria and they settled in Sibiu where they spent most of their lives close to their families. They had two children, Carmen and Ciprian and raised a happy family of which they were very proud. In his profession he established an undeniable reputation through hard work, dedication, creativity and leadership. Some of the landmark buildings in Sibiu such as “Imparatul Romanilor Hotel”, “Continental Hotel” and other civic and residential buildings bear his signature for a great quality of construction or renovation. Gheorghe was well trusted and appreciated by the community in Sibiu and Rod. Always ready to help when needed, he never hesitated to contribute with everything he could for the good of the many. After retirement, he and his wife followed their children and granddaughters to Canada, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, friends and family. In spite of the health challenges he had to face in the 6 years he lived here, he fell in love with Canada and the Canadians. He was particularly humbled by all the help received from the health care system and community, and he often referred to the health professionals as “angels”. Becoming a Canadian citizen was a dream-come-true, his last one…
We will remember him as a very kind and generous husband, father and grandfather. Light hearted, honest and simple, he showed respect to everyone and earned everyone’s friendship. And above all, we will remember the Peace and Love that flourished all around him and continue to grow in all of us because we knew him.

Iar dupa 3 ani de stagiu militar a devenit maistru in constructii si a lucrat in Hunedoara cativa ani.
