Hans Hansen

March 6, 1930 — January 18, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Hans (Hanney) Marius Hansen, on Monday, January 18, 2021, at the residence of his daughter Tracy, with his son Rande, and Tracy, by his side.

Hanney was born on March 6, 1930, in Revelstoke, B.C. to parents Mary and Louie Hansen who immigrated from Denmark in 1924. He married Gwyndoline (Gwyn) Owen, in 1955, and had two children, Rande and Tracy.

Hanney was a very hard working man who cherished his family. He was an incredible brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He idolized his two grandchildren and they idolized him. He had a great sense of humor, could fix pretty much anything and loved everything to do with golf. In his early days in Revelstoke, Hanney was known for playing 3 rounds a day with two of his friends, Kenny Granstrom and Bill Belton.

Hanney started his career at 18 with CP Rail in Revelstoke. He worked in Field, as well as North Bend, Lethbridge and Vancouver. He retired in 1989 as Divisional Master Mechanic based out of Vancouver.

Through the years in Vancouver, he was a long-time member of the Surrey Golf Club, and also enjoyed over 40 years with his many friends through the CP Golf Association. He always looked forward to the out-of-town tournaments and cherished the memories he made with friends.

Something else he held very dear was his monthly CP Rail luncheons at the John B Pub with “the boys”. It started as a large group and continued for over 30 years. Hanney was so well liked, so well respected and will be remembered by his friends and family as a gracious gentleman who made others laugh and wanted to ensure those around him were happy.

Wherever Hanney and his family lived, Revelstoke held a large part of his heart. He treasured the annual family gatherings at the Hansen home, whether at Christmas or in the summer, Hanney always looked forward to the next time he would be home.

Hanney was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Edith, Irma and Elsie. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gwyn; three sisters Greta, Louise (Lou) and Karen (Jo); daughter and son-in-law Tracy and Gaetano Fasciana; son Rande Hansen of Vancouver; grandchildren, Brandon and Stephanie; as well as his other family members in Canada and Denmark.

Cremation arrangements were in the care of Burquitlam Funeral Home, Coquitlam.

In lieu of a service, the family will gather after COVID restrictions are lifted, in Revelstoke to celebrate his life.

Donations may be made in care of his long-term charitable interests: Covenant House, SPCA, Lymphoma, or War Amps.
