EDWARDS, Harold Gordon “Curly”
1917—2012
Harold Edwards, known to his many friends as “Curly” passed away peacefully at George Derby Centre in Burnaby, B.C., August 22. Harold was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and was married to his dear wife Agnes for 70 years. He was surrounded by family who he assured with smiles and nods amid some discomfort that he was ready. He was 95.
Harold, who was the nephew of Air Marshall Gus Edwards, served in the RCAF with the 487 Squadron in Britain during WWII, flying many missions in Ventura and Mosquito bombers. He retired from service with the rank of Squadron Leader in Vancouver in 1964. He became Civil Defence Coordinator in Richmond-Delta during the 60s and 70s.
Curly loved to ride into the hills of the Southern Chilcotins “up country” on ol’ Charley and gather in the evenings with his many pals.
Harold was predeceased by his brother Bob and sister Marge.
Surviving family include his wife, Agnes, son, Bruce (Deborah) Edwards of Roberts Creek, B.C., daughter Nancy (Peter) Polonio of New Westminster, B.C., 5 grandchildren: Mark (Jamie), Josephine, Lisa, Teresa (Jesse), Michael and 4 great-grandchildren: Matthew, Taylor, Amirra, and Victoria.
We would like to thank the staff of George Derby for their kindness and compassion during Harold’s time spent there. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 2:00pm at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam.
