Helen Hyra

August 4, 1922 — October 13, 2023

Helen Hyra (nee Keller)
August 4, 1922 - October 13, 2023

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great, Great Grandmother on October 13, 2023. She went very peacefully into her "forever sleep" which she so desired with Verna by her side on a sunny afternoon with her Classic Country music playing softly on the TV at the wonderful age of 101 years.

She is predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1988, her parents Mary and Joseph Keller, her four siblings and daughter-in-law Barbara Hyra.

She will be forever loved and missed by children Verna (Andy), Lawrence, Adeline (Wayne), 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great, great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.

Mom was born and raised in Angusville, Manitoba. She and Dad along with Dad's mother (our Baba) moved to Neepawa in 1952 to operate a poolroom/bowling alley with Dad's brother Alex. In 1962 we moved to Port Moody, B.C. where Dad established "Tom's Goofy Golf" and Mom worked as a desk clerk at the Leon Hotel and then the Commercial Hotel. After Dad's passing Mom remained in her Port Moody home until October 2016 when she moved to Gateway Assisted Living where she made some wonderful friends, loved playing bingo and even learned how to play blackjack. She was an avid reader and loved hockey. The Canucks have lost one of their biggest fans. But then more health issues forced a move into long term care at Guildford Seniors Village earlier this year. The rose was her favorite flower and how fitting it was that her suite here was the Rosewood wing. We will be forever grateful for the outstanding care she received in both of these facilities.

No service is planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Canuck Place Children's Hospice Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Condolences and tributes may be sent to the family by visiting www.burquitlamfuneralhome.ca.

If Roses grow in Heaven, Lord please
pick a bunch for me
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek and hold
her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
But there's an ache within my
heart that will never go away.
