Hermina Van Gaalen

January 27, 1962 — December 4, 2020

Hermina A. van Gaalen
(Jan. 27, 1962 – Dec. 4, 2020)

Beloved sister of Marja, friend to many and a faithful believer in Christ.

The name Hermina is taken from the Teutonic, meaning “woman of war” and Tina (her usual name) was certainly that. She would defend those in need, stood up for what is right, and for past 14 months was a warrior fighting cancer. Although she lost the battle to cancer, she certainly was not defeated. Her faith in God was unwavering. When asked to lead a small group in her Bible Study, she took on that role with determination, always researching for the truth when the answer key to the study questions was inadequate.

Tina earned a degree in Archaeology, specializing in faunal analysis. She was an artist who loved to paint roses on various walls in houses she lived in. She loved to garden (vegetables, fruit, flowers—all started from seed). She loved to bake muffins and sweet treats and helped prepare soup and sandwiches for the homeless. Her passion was all kinds of animals, befriending neighborhood pets and strays and the outdoor birds alike. Animals that became pets (cat, rabbit, bird, fish, etc.) were not chosen because they were the best but were the most in need of a home. Every pet was spoiled because “they had a rough start to life, and now deserve the best.”

Tina, you are now safe in the care of the Heavenly Father, released from pain and suffering. You were much loved and will be greatly missed.
