Hubert Morgan

January 4, 1929 — June 9, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Hubert “Hugh” Leonard Morgan announces his sudden but peaceful passing on June 9, 2020, at the age of 91. Hugh was born on January 4, 1929, in Port Moody, B.C., and has lived all his life in Port Moody and Coquitlam.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Helen; son James (Maria) and daughter Sandy Dow (Bill); grandchildren Andrew Dow (Brooke), Melissa Dow, Leah Dow and Theresa Morgan; and great grandchildren Talia and Anika Dow. He was the last of “The Morgan Boys”, having been predeceased by his brothers Bill, Vic, Ernie and Jack. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Anne Hart.
Hugh was a conscientious and hardworking man. As a young teen, he started working at Flavelle Cedar. He later moved to IPSCO (Interprovincial Steel and Pipe Corporation) where he worked until his retirement as a Supervisor in 1987. Shortly after, he continued to work at Foremost Foods in Burnaby until his second retirement in 1991.
Hugh was never one to sit down idly. He enjoyed growing and tending his gardens at home, always proud of his harvests of potatoes and beans. He loved fishing and would go annually to fish at Loon Lake. He and Helen also vacationed regularly in Hawaii, went on cruises, and in his later years, joined different tours and excursions throughout the province with the Dogwood seniors group. He took up wood carving after retirement, producing beautifully crafted models of birds and animals.
Hugh touched many lives through his volunteer endeavors. He was a very active member of the Port Moody Lions Club for many years. He received various awards including the Melvin Jones Fellowship award, and was Treasurer when he retired from the club.
Above all, Hugh was always a wonderful husband and family man. Always warm and caring, he had a ready smile and a funny story for everyone.
His grandchildren said it best when they wrote this for him: “Why we love our Grandpa: He’s always happy and smiling. He laughs at all our jokes. He makes funny names for us. He yells very loud when the Canucks lose. He makes the best potato pancakes. He doesn’t look a day over 60! He’s always happy to see us. He makes us laugh. He is kind and volunteers to help other people.”
Hugh, Dad, Grandpa, GG......you are loved and will always be in our hearts.
