Irenea Lasiste

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Irenea Ladrido Lasiste on July 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family in Mission, British Columbia, at the age of 93.

Irenea was born in September 1932 in Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Teodorico Lasiste, and her son, Christopher Lasiste.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Nora and Ted Canicula; her grandchildren, Ybee, Darene, Derek, Richard, Michar, Drieden, and Rook; her many great-grandchildren; extended family; and dear friends in both the Philippines and Canada.

Building a life in Kalinga Province, Irenea dedicated her career to serving others as an elementary school teacher. She was known as a kind, generous, and fair educator whose influence reached far beyond the classroom, touching the lives of countless students and their families. Affectionately known as Nanaylo, she possessed a regal presence, carrying herself with grace, quiet strength, and unwavering dignity that inspired deep respect and admiration.

Later in life, Irenea and Teodorico made Canada their home. Her greatest joy came from watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow, and the love she shared with them remains one of her most enduring legacies. She also found great happiness in gardening alongside her daughter, lovingly cultivating Filipino vegetables and beautiful flowers.

Irenea will be remembered for her compassionate heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family. Her kindness and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to family members, friends, and compassionate caregivers for the love, care, and support they provided during Nanaylo’s final days.
