With great sadness, we announce the passing of James Martin Case on January 30, 2025 at the age of 89 while at home at Shaughnessy Care Place in Port Coquitlam. James’ daughters will be forever grateful for the professional and compassionate care he received from the staff at the end of his life and for ensuring he passed with grace.
James was born in Whiston, England on November 11, 1935. In 1963, James married Jennifer Margaret Jones who was the love of his life. Margaret pre-deceased him on March 12, 2023. Their honeymoon was spent sailing to Canada but unfortunately, it was not as romantic as James hoped as Margaret was hopelessly sea sick the entire journey. They settled in Hamilton, later moving to Ottawa and Bolton before achieving their dream of moving to British Columbia in 1979 where they made Coquitlam home.
James was professional engineer who started his Canadian career in the early sixties installing radar near Saskatoon. His first job upon returning to Canada after getting married in England was at Westinghouse in Hamilton. In British Columbia, he worked for Lenkurt, Microtel, and Nortel before retiring in 1997. He spent much of his retirement years doing what he loved best: walking his dogs in Mundy Park. While he occasionally travelled, he disliked being away from his dog for too long so he and Margaret were genuine home-bodies.
James will be dearly missed by his daughters and their families. He will be fondly remembered by his younger brother Bill (Rita) and extended family and friends near and far.
A special thank you to all his caregivers at both Mayfair Terrace and Shaughnessy Care Place who took excellent care of James (and his last dog Ricky) during his final years and months.
Cremation has taken place and at James’ request, no service is planned. If you would like to honour James’ memory, please consider a donation to BC Pets and Friends. James had the loving comfort of a dog beside him as he left this world.
