Jeffrey Byron

December 20, 1986 — March 4, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey D. Byron from Port Coquitlam, B.C., on March 4, 2021 at the age of 34 years.

Jeffrey was born in Whitecourt, Alberta on December 20, 1986. Growing up Jeffrey seemed to be the picture of health, as a likable tall slim athletic young man. But at the age of 29, serious kidney failure was discovered, even though he was asymptomatic.

His passion was in film and in 2015; he attended South Seas Film and TV school in Auckland, New Zealand. After graduation he hoped to accept a position in the production department with James Cameron working on the sequel to Avatar. However, a failed medical exam for his work visa stood in the way of that dream. It was necessary to return home to Canada and adjust life plans. Still wanting to pursue his dream, Jeffrey then went to Vancouver to look for work in the film industry. He began with PA work, and later was fortunate to find the great people at Hellkat Talent Agency, and started working in background roles on many different TV series. The last show he performed as a background actor was on “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.”

His kidneys collapsed from 15% to 7% in January of 2019, and he struggled back to continue working in the industry, but with reduced energy. In July of 2020, his kidneys collapsed to 3% and shortly after getting himself to the hospital, he went into a coma and was on life support. They placed him on emergency dialysis and he recovered remarkably fast and walked out after five days, but had to start permanent hemodialysis three times a week. In January he had to have the Permacath moved and shortly after developed a blood infection. He was placed on IV antibiotics every four hours in the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC. He then contracted covid-19 in the hospital and was sent home for 14 day quarantine. Jeffrey died of heart failure during the early morning hours, in his apartment on March 4, 2021, while under quarantine.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers on the shows where he was selected to play various background roles.

A private viewing will be held on March 20, 2021 by RSVP invitation only. And at a later date, a memorial will be held in Coquitlam once regulations allow for larger gatherings.

Special thanks to all those wonderful people that reached out to comfort us and provide assistance where possible. We could not have made it through this without you!
