Joan was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia on Monday, September 28th, 1931, and was raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia until her early 20's, where she worked at a local bank. A visit to see her cousin in Calgary, Alberta prompted her to request and receive a transfer to a bank branch in Calgary to start a new life. There she met her future husband, Edward (Ted) Ball. The two were married on February 16th, 1953 in Christ Church, Calgary. Next came their four children, Dorothy, Nancy, Thomas (Sheila), and Brian (Wendy).
In 1961, Ted was recruited for a new career in Burnaby, B. C. and the family moved there to resettle in New Westminster and then Coquitlam, where they lived until her passing, on Monday, March 07, 2016. Following a sheltered upbringing, Joan, one by one acquired the skills and talents to perform her responsibilities to become proficient at the complex tasks of a growing household. This included cooking, baking, preserving, sewing, gardening, with a little dabbling at interior decorating. Also, it should be mentioned, she greatly assisted her husband, Ted, in many tasks.
After raising her four children, she obtained a retail job at a new Eaton's location. Having mastered the sales duties at Eaton's, she ventured to a new career at Lenkurt / Microtel setting up a new company store. In 1991, she retired from Lenkurt / Microtel, to enjoy her garden and her three grandchildren,Taylor, Lisa, and Katelyn. She continued to bake, cook and preserve jams in her spare time, of which she gave generously. She will be sadly missed by her husband, four children, three grandchildren, extended family members, neighbours and friends.
