Early Friday morning Feb 15, 2013 Joanne passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at Royal Columbian Hospital with husband Sveinn by her side. Survived by Sveinn, her husband of almost 50 years; children Charlene Mael, Danielle Helgason (Steve Wilson), Signe Thorp (Simon) and grandchildren Sabrina, Ryan, Evan and Anders; siblings Bill LaCoste (Jeannie) and Michelle Labossiere; predeceased by parents Hector & Kathleen LaCoste and brother in law Bob Labossiere. Born in Estevan Saskatchewan June 14 1941, Joanne moved to Vancouver with her family in 1956. She graduated as an RN from St.Paul’s Hospital Vancouver in 1962. She worked at White Rock Hospital, St Mary’s, Lions Gate and Cedarview Lodge North Vancouver, retiring in 2000. Joanne & Sveinn lived in North Vancouver for many years where she devoted her time to her family. They moved their young family to Iran in 1976, and then Argentina in 1980. A resilient and adventurous family they circumnavigated the world travelling to exotic locations. Joanne & Sveinn moved to Qualicum Beach in 2001. Joanne & Sveinn became snowbirds and travelled south annually. The centre of a dynamic family, Joanne’s “mommy magic” was renowned. Her heart was filled with joy when she was around family. Gatherings were enjoyed with good food and lots of laughter.
