Larry Graveness

July 24, 1938 — September 17, 2012

Larry was born on July 24th 1938 to Della & Gunnar Graveness in Bella Coola BC. His great grandfather was Reverend Christian Saugstad who settled a group of Lutherans from Minnesota into the Bella Coola Valley in 1894.
In 1942 the young family moved to Vancouver and expanded to include his much loved brother Gary. Larry graduated form Vancouver Tech. in 1956, that year he worked with his father and brother to build their new home where many happy family gatherings took place. Larry's career began with Burroughs business machines in 1958. His work took him to Penticton where he developed a great love for water skiing. Larry bought his first ski boat and accomplished the great feat of skiing from Penticton to Kelowna non-stop.
Eventually Larry was transferred to Nelson where he met his beloved wife Hazel and her beautiful little daughter Laurie. In 1969 they moved to Coquitlam and later welcomed a dear son Jeremy.
Larry had a long career with Burroughs until his retirement in 1991. He then worked with the Royal Bank for several years. Larry was a 55 year member of the Son's of Norway Lodge. He liked to play cards and was an avid bridge player. Larry played in many duplicate bridge tournaments. Larry also enjoyed working with young people. He was a Cub Scout leader and an a assistant coach for youth baseball. This led Larry to join an adult baseball team with some workmates. When Larry retired he spent his time with his family and grandchildren, enjoying many summer vacations in Osoyoos especially in the blue pool with his grandsons who he adored.
Larry's gentle way and warm smile will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him.. The family wishes to thank Dr. Toews and all the caring staff at Burquitlam Lions care Home for all the special care he received.
