Larry Mike Popoff

Larry Mike Popoff, 75, who spent the majority of his life in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

Larry was the first child born to parents Anne & Mike Popoff on November 21, 1950, in Trail BC.

Larry was raised in the city of Castlegar where he did his elementary, secondary and college schooling followed by his undergraduate studies in the Faculty of Commerce at UBC.

Growing up in the West Kootenay’s afforded Larry the opportunity to play most sports and take advantage of exploring the outdoors. While attending Stanley Humphries High School he achieved excellent grades and participated in most sports, he excelled in track and field, basketball and soccer. Outside of school activities Larry excelled in baseball, a left-handed pitcher, hockey which he played for Castlegar’s inaugural junior team.

Growing up in Castlegar also gave him the opportunity to fish, hike, pick mushrooms and huckleberries and spend time in the outdoors, this never left him. Upon graduating from UBC Larry set upon becoming a chartered accountant articling with Gardner McDonald and achieving his professional designation in 1974.

Employment and partnership followed with Smyth Radcliffe and BDO. Larry went on to specialize as an insolvency trustee, a field in which he spent most of his professional career. In 1985, Larry and Pat welcomed their first son, Shawn, followed by Jason in 1987. Larry was an extremely honourable man who took great pride in raising his two boys, whom he loved deeply and spoke of often and fondly.

Larry spent countless hours on sports fields, in hockey rinks, baseball diamonds and swimming pools over the next 20 years supporting both boys in their sports activities.

He also raised his hand and coached the boys in baseball and hockey.

Larry also found time to participate in sports himself as he played adult soccer, tennis, slow pitch softball and hockey with his Road Runners team. In his later years, Larry found great joy in simple pleasures—meeting friends for long lunches, reconnecting with old companions and sharing lively and often humorous emails.

He cherished these connections and loved recounting even the smallest moments with his loved ones, always with enthusiasm and warmth. Larry will be remembered as a kind, honest, proud, and devoted father and friend. He was well loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his sons Shawn, Jason (Rue) and his two granddaughters, Olivia and Ellie, his brother Michael (Marcia) Diana (Chad) Beau and Maxwell.

He was predeceased by his parents Mike (1994) and Anne Popoff (2009) and nephew Todd Campbell.

Larry’s Burial will take place in Castlegar B.C. at the Brilliant cometary 12pm, March 30th, 2026.

Larry will forever live on in the spirit and memories of those who knew and loved him.

We welcome all those able to attend a service to honour Larry's life on Saturday 11am, March 28th, 2026, followed by a reception.
