Leonard John Hammond
Jan. 24, 1928 – Oct. 2, 2022
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Leonard John Hammond announce his
sudden passing on Oct. 2, 2022.
Leonard was born on a farm in Maryfield, Saskatchewan and was pre-deceased by his
father Henry & his mother Annie (nee Franklin) & 7 siblings (Russell, Melvin, Mabel
(Goshulak), Clifford, Elsie (Tougas), Chester, and Arnetta (Swallow).
He is survived by his loving wife Lois (m. 71 years) & his 3 children: Cheryl (Ken), Robin
(Don), Kevin (Pauline); and 6 grandchildren: Jamie, Angela (Mike), Kate, Samantha
(Matt), Jordan (Chelsea), Michael (Veronica), including 6 great grandchildren: Lilah,
Rachel, Abby, Everly, Lucas, Ronin and many nieces & nephews in B.C. and across
Canada.
Len was a very devoted, loving family man with a quiet, yet steadfast faith. He always:
had a huge smile when he greeted you, was very patient, had a great sense of humour
and a joke at the ready in his pocket for anyone that would listen, and a twinkle in his
eye. Len held a positive attitude every day of his life and never complained! A big
thank-you to all the staff at Parkwood Manor.
Len lived in Coquitlam for 66 years and was a Prudential Life Insurance Agent for 30
years in Coquitlam. He attended the Prudential Agent Reunions up until 3 years ago. In
retirement, he worked as a handyman extraordinaire for Grayline Buses until well into
his 70’s. In the 1950’s he worked at B.C Sugar Refinery.
Growing up on the Prairies taught Len thriftiness, a hard work ethic and the skill of being
able to fix almost anything, often by re-purposing items other people had discarded.
Len and Lois spent many summers in their beloved Hawaii, winters in Palm Desert, then
later in life they travelled extensively on Cruise ships which gave them great joy.
Wherever they travelled they made many new friends and always stayed in touch.
There will be a small celebration of life for family and a few close friends at a much later
date. Condolences to the family, please visit: burquitlamfuneralhome.ca
