Lois Hammond

August 18, 1930 — November 6, 2022

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Lois Pearl Hammond announce her passing on Nov. 6, 2022. Five weeks after her beloved husband Leonard.

Lois was predeceased by her father Herbert H. Janson (Janetzki); mother Stella May Janson/Janetzki (nee Campbell); and stepmother Ivy Janson (Snyder), including cousins & other relatives in Australia.

Lois is survived by her sister Carmen (Steve) niece Erin, nephew Chad and cousin Peter Kirkwood (Australia). She is also survived by her 3 children: Cheryl (Ken), Robin (Don), Kevin (Pauline); and 6 grandchildren: Jamie, Angela (Mike), Kate, Samantha (Matt), Jordan (Chelsea), Michael (Veronica), including 6 great grandchildren: Lilah, Rachel, Abby, Everly, Lucas, Ronin and many nieces & nephews in B.C., across
Canada and Australia.

Lois was born in Kew, Australia and spent her early childhood in Melbourne and Sydney, then the family moved to in Los Angeles where her father had been an Evangelist, Pastor & Educator. She attended Coulter Christian Academy through to Grade 13 and has stayed connected while attending many class reunions. Later, her family relocated to Winnipeg for a few short years and soon after losing her beloved mother she came West to Vancouver and met Leonard John & “the rest is history”.

Lois was a devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and a woman of strong faith. She was an amazing homemaker, who baked the best bread on Earth! Others tried to duplicate the recipe but none compared. In the summers she canned fruit in Penticton, while camping! She was very compassionate and became a second mother to foster children, many child-care clients and Japanese Homestay students for 10 years. They all became family and she maintained close ties with most of them, to this day. There is a paper trail to prove it!! She will be greatly missed.

Lois cherished her Australian family roots, especially her Uncle Art & Les who made boomerangs, were champions & played in a Marimba band in Sydney, Australia.

Lois & husband Len spent many summers in their beloved Hawaii, winters in Palm Desert, then later in life they travelled extensively on Cruise ships which gave them great joy. Wherever they travelled they made many new friends & stayed connected.

A big thank-you to all the staff and entertainers at Parkwood Manor for 5 great years and the Madison staff (the past 2 years) who provided excellent nursing care. As a family, we are grateful. Lois was extremely grateful for Dr. C. Dehoney & Dr. C. Wallace.

At Lois’ request there will only be a small celebration of life for family and at a later date.
