Claire Halpape

July 5, 1939 — March 14, 2026

Coquitlam

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mom/memere, Claire Halpape. She left us peacefully, in the comfort of family, on March 14, 2026, at the McKenney Creek Hospice Residence in Maple Ridge, BC.

Claire was blessed to have shared her life with two husbands. She was married for almost 11 years to Theodore Filiatrault (deceased April 1, 1972), and 41 years to Albert Halpape (deceased August 9, 2017).

Claire was much loved by many including her 6 children, Terry (Naiyana Blackett) Halpape, Lana (Jamie) Forsythe, Doug Halpape, Colette (Geoff Tennent) Filiatrault, Rita (Ron) Charbonneau, and Julie Filiatrault. Also, her 8 grandchildren, Ryan (Diana Nino) Forsythe, Dalyn (Silvia Talamonti) Forsythe, Brittany (Kris Marsden) Forsythe, Shane (Samantha Galanakis) Halpape, Amy Halpape, Tess (Anthony) Tremolada, Dean Charbonneau and Nicholas Goodine. And finally, her cherished 2-year-old great-granddaughter, Adalyn (Tess & Anthony) Tremolada.

Claire was born on July 5, 1939, as the 12th of 14 children. She is now reunited with 11 predeceased siblings and is survived by her two sisters, Edna Alain and Emma LeSann; along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Claire was born on a small farm west of St. Eustache, Manitoba. At the early age of 21, she moved to Coquitlam, BC and has been there in the same house for 62 years. Rarely was she idle… you could find her busy with many hobbies (gardening or tending to her flower beds, canning and cooking, baking, curling, loved her daily crossword, crocheting afghans, quilting, board games and was always up for a good pun or joke). She enjoyed travel of all types; numerous trips to Hawaii, Europe, camper traveling through Canada and to Alaska and California, but her favourites were the many memory-making camping and skiing trips with family. She was friendly, welcoming, carried a calm demeanor and had the patience of Job…. which was crucial with a busy household of kids and grandkids. She finally filled her sunset years as a Canadian Snowbird at the Lost Dutchman Resort in Apache Junction, Arizona for 25 years. But throughout her whole life, young and old, her greatest love was always family, and her legacy will live on forever.

The funeral mass will take place on March 31, 2026, at Saint Clare of Assisi Parish in Coquitlam, BC at 11:00 AM
