Marlene Dutton passed away peacefully on July 26, 2013 in hospice with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Marlene is survived by her husband of 49 years Gary, her son Mike, her daughter Karen and her cherished grandson Logan. Marlene also leaves behind her brother Bruce Corbett of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Marlene was born in Flin Flon Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg in 1959 and graduated from the St. Boniface School of Nursing in 1962. Marlene and Gary were married in 1964, they then relocated to Vancouver in 1972.
Having lived in Coquitlam for over 40 years, Marlene brought a smile to the face of everyone she met. Her passion for caring for others resulted in her successfully directing The Hummingbird Kids Society for over 25 years, as well as a rewarding career in the B.C. Corrections Hospital System, inspiring the initiation of The Mental Health Unit. Marlene never failed to help those who needed extra care. The world is a better place because of her wisdom, her wit, her wonderful smile, loving embraces and compassion for others. Marlene was truly a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
For everyone who had the honor of knowing Marlene, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam on August 15 at 2pm with a cocktail party immediately following at the family home.
