Coquitlam

SHEIN, Marlene Marie (nee Keegan) (b. May 18, 1934 – d. March 26, 2026) of Coquitlam, BC passed away peacefully at the age of 91 at Royal Columbia Hospital, late in the evening on March 26, 2026. Marlene was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the youngest in a family of 10 in a proud Irish family.

Marlene was courted and then swept away by Merv (Mendy) Shein and in 1958 were married. This began an incredible journey that saw them have five children and live in Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and back to Vancouver. Of all things, Marlene was most proud of her family; wife to Merv (pre-deceased in 1999), mother to five surviving children Tim (Sandy); Terry (Marcia); Michael (Adele); David and Aileen (Marc – pre-deceased in 2020), grandmother to 12 grandchildren and great grandmother to 2 great grand children.

Marlene (Nana) has an unwavering love of her family and her faith. In her early years and throughout her life, Marlene was heavily involved with the Archdiocese of Vancouver and her local church groups. No matter where the family called home, she loved being involved, as the best Hockey Mom or often took to organizing volunteer (or volun-told) groups like the All Saints Parish Fun Fair, Funeral committee, the 78 year membership in the CWL and the 55+ group to name just a few.

Marlene was finally reunited with her siblings, when in 1976, the Shein’s came home to the west coast to Coquitlam, BC. This began great family traditions like the biweekly Sunday afternoon visits with the Keegan clan at the Baker’s house, the Keegan Family reunion the Ray Foord Golf Classic (aka. Keegan Classic) and her 40+ years of hosting the Shein St. Patrick’s Day Party.

Marlene was also famous for being a Charter Member of the Stitch n Bitch Club. This group could be found every Wednesday, meeting for an afternoon of chit chat, and fun food, but the truth be told, very little Stitching, unless Marlene was able to persuade her sister Irene to do her mending.

Bringing up 5 children gave Nana a passion for loving family and providing unconditional support. Her family would say the striking thing about Nana, was her ever living smile and her incredible sense of humour. Nana would make your frown turn upside down whenever you saw her. Her other superpower was her extraordinary ability to recall and sing a song when given a word. Her recall was amazing to witness.

Nana will be missed tremendously, her smile, her passion for family and her never ending defence of her faith.

We love you Nana, Mom, Auntie, Marlene. There is one heck of a reunion party going on in heaven with Merv, Marc and her Keegan clan.

There will be a Catholic Mass at All Saints Parish 821 Fairfax St, Coquitlam, BC V3J 5K7 on April 30th @ 3pm with reception wake to follow at the Vancouver Golf Club; 771 Austin Avenue, Coquitlam, BC.
