Martin Werner Schikora
Passed away July 15/2024 at 7:24am at age 92 in the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC, Canada.
Martin was born May 11/1932 in Breslau, Schlesien, Germany. Martin grew up with his single mother Katharina, had little contact with his father Ludwig Kühn, and lived though the horror’s of war and postwar Germany. He immigrated to Canada in the 1951 age 19. He Followed his uncles and cousins and settled in British Columbia, Lower Mainland where he lived and worked. He married Lucy in 1956 and raised his family of three children. His free time enjoyment was the wilderness, camping, hunting, and fishing.
He work for many years in heavy field construction mainly of sawmill construction. This work took him all over British Columbia and the Yukon for weeks and months away from his family. He worked as Laborer, Welder, Millwright and over time became a General Superintendent of the projects. This supplied his family with a comfortable home and life style.
Martin is survived by his wife Lucy and three children - Martin, Michael (Janet), Monica (Donald). Three grandchildren - Mark (Megan) , Paul (Taylor), John. One great granddaughter - Madeline .
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, July 30th 2024 at All Saints Parish (821 Fairfax St., Coquitlam, BC.) Reception to follow immediately after the mass. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to the BC Children’s Hospital.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to the teams of care aids, nurses, and doctors at Royal City Age Care & Royal Columbian Hospital for the care given to him in the last few weeks of his life.
