Martta Juoni

December 31, 1969 — December 14, 2018

Martta Juoni died peacefully on December 14th 2018, just short of her 93rd birthday. Born and raised in Finland, Martta endured both war and the Great Depression. She began a new life in Canada in 1957 with her family... living in Montreal, Cornwall and then Vancouver.

Martta found great satisfaction through her work as a care aide at Finnish Manor in Burnaby. She also served as the local chairperson and shop steward for the Hospital Employees' Union, and won the respect of her fellow care providers.

Martta retired to Kelowna and lived there until 2010, appreciating the company of her family and friends. She also enjoyed travel, and remained active in walking and playing bocci.

In 2012, Martta returned to Finnish Manor as a resident. Martta's family is grateful to the staff for their support as her care needs grew.

Martta was a hard and committed worker; a dedicated parent, grandparent and great grandparent; a fine cook and baker; and a good friend to many.

Martta is predeceased by her son Jarmo. She is survived and remembered lovingly by her children Paula (Peter), Helina (Lauri), Veli-Matti (Catherine) and Arja (David); as well as six grand children and five great grand children.

A service to celebrate Martta's life will take place on Friday January 11th 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 6344 Sperling Ave., Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice in Martta's memory.
