Mary Olga Culos

Port Moody

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our mom, Mary Culos. wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she showed incredible strength throughout her battle with cancer, and though she fought hard, she passed peacefully in her sleep on April 23, 2026..

Born in Vancouver at St. Paul’s Hospital, she grew up in the East End before marrying and settling in North Burnaby. Without hesitation, she and her husband Victor went on to build three beautiful homes together, eventually making their final move to Port Moody.

Affectionately known as Murray Goldman, “Marie the Dawn Is Breaking,” “Mary Mary Quite Contrary,” Queen Mary, and Party Mary, she loved dancing, bowling, some travelling and a little time at the slot machines, she was known for hosting unforgettable gatherings for family and friends, especially her annual Christmas Eve dinners, where her solo rendition of “Five Gold Rings” became a cherished tradition. She also treasured her lively lunches with her cousin-besties and visits with her life long friend on Vancouver Island.

She was a devoted “team fan,” cheering on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events. Everyone who knew her carries an endearing “Mary” story, she was truly one of a kind.

She was predecessed by her parents Marijan Veljacic and Boza (Loviric) Veljacic

She is survived by her husband Victor Culos; her children Victor Culos (Sandra), Adrian Culos (Colleen) and Christine Culos; Grandchildren Angelo Culos (Allison), Kate Culos and Carson Tipper; her great grandchild Hazel Culos (Angelo & Allison), and her sister Tina Genovese (Elso).

Our deepest gratitude goes to the Home Health Care workers, as well as the ER and Palliative Care nurses and doctors at Eagle Ridge Hospital. We are also thankful to the volunteer drivers, radiation and oncology team, and staff at the Surrey and Burnaby Cancer Clinics for their care, compassion, and support in helping our mom live as long and as safely as she could.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date; details will be shared when available.
