Melvin Shannon

August 21, 1941 — February 5, 2021

Born in Princeton BC and raised in Trail BC but lived his life in Coquitlam BC.

Predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years Roberta (Salmond) and is greatly missed by his three daughters Carrie, Kimberley (Chris) and Nicole. He had a special place in his heart for his three girls and his three nephews Rino (Sandy), Mark (Linda) and John (Laurie) as well his brother in law Rino and sister in law Grace. His great niece and nephews plus other extended family members were so important to him. He also cultivated a huge group of friends and business associates that were also blessed by his sharp wit, biting humour and intimidating intelligence.

As a trained accountant for the early years of his career he honed his ability to be frugal yet knew how to treat himself to the finer things in life. His dad introduced the Elk Valley to him at the age of 12 and that started the love affair with camping and travel. Mel could transition from off grid to luxury world cruises seamlessly and has instilled that love of adventure in his girls.

Mid career he took the risk of becoming an entrepreneur and ended his working life as an executive of an international corporation, a pretty well rounded guy. Mel loved his life, worked extremely hard and had zero complaints about leaving anything undone. He was a member of the Vancouver Golf and Country Club for 50 years and was an avid golfer for most of his life. His swing was smooth and unassuming, much like the man.

A huge thank you to the teams at Eagle Ridge Hospital and Crossroads Hospice.
