Merne Francis Torresan passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Port Moody at the age of 92, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Merne was married to the love of his life, Lorretta Torresan, until her passing on June 23, 2002. They had 4 wonderful children, Wendy (Bob), Glenn (Linda), Norma-Lynn (Jack) and Kimberly (Neil). They had 9 grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick), Angela (Peter), Bradley (Erica), Kaitlyn (Michael), Peter, Katie, Lindsay (Luke), Scott (Michelle) and Julia (Michael). They also had 9 great-grandchildren. Merne was an officer with the RCMP from 1954 until his retirement in 1988. During his career he was one of the mounted police officers on Parliament Hill, and was part of the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride. Prior to his retirement he was the commanding Superintendent of the Kootenay region in British Columbia. He dedicated himself to service with excellence and integrity.
Always the doting grandfather, he was well-loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike. He was proud of each one of them, and of his children.
Later in his life he was fortunate to meet Marion who he spent his last years with. They shared a wonderful life together full of laughter, good movies, companionship and friendship.
His legacy lives on through the cherished memories, laughter and values that remain with us.
