It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, our special Nanny, Nora Rogers, this past Sunday, May 24th.
Nora was born on December 1, 1933 at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver to parents George and Mary Belford. The family resided in South Vancouver and Nora attended Moberly Elementary with her sisters, Mary, Agnes, Irene and Carole. Later the family grew to include younger brother, Brian.
As a child Nora was always an inquisitive and energetic presence, engaging in many enjoyable activities and sports, especially her favorite, softball, which she played throughout her childhood and adolescence. There hapened to be a small nursery in the neighborhood and by volunteering there Nora soon developed a lifelong fascination and passion for gardening.
Nora then attended John Oliver Secondary where she met her future husband, Walter. The family soon grew to include Wayne, Debbie, Kim and Carrie. Nora devoted all her care and abundant energy to her family and the family home. She was a tireless worker and after her long days she enjoyed sharing her garden and gardening advice with neighbours. Neighborhood gossip was a favorite pastime as well.
When Wayne and Debbie graduated the family moved to Coquitlam where Nora and Wally joined extended family members who had previously moved from Vancouver. The family continued to grow and soon there was Wayne and wife Linda, Debbie and husband Ken, Kim and husband Orlando and Carrie and husband Darren. The following years brought the joy of grandchildren Brodie, Jessica, Colby and Chace.
In retirement Nora and Walter enjoyed daily walks at Como Lake, weekly excursions to Stanley Park and many cruises with sister Agnes and her husband George. Nora also became interested in the arts of ceramics and oil painting with daughter in law, Linda, and her creations decorate the family gardens today.
Nora spent the final years of her life at Lakeshore Care Center. The family is indebted to the center's compassionate, caring staff.
Nora is survived by Wayne, Linda, Debbie, Ken, Kim, Orlando, Carrie, Darren, Brodie, Jessica, Colby, sister Carole, brother Brian as well as many nieces and nephews. A rich, rewarding life. Dedication to community. Devotion and love of family. Thank you, Nanny. Thank you, Mom. You are always with us.
