Romeo (Peter) Ferdinand Pronovost passed away peacefully at the George Derby Care Centre on September 14, 2014, at the age of 97. Peter was the last of his generation being predeceased by his 7 siblings. Peter will be lovingly missed by his wife, Lillie (Leigh) of 70 years, by his daughter Jan (Bill) and son Mark (Jacqueline), as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Although his family was originally from Quebec, Peter spent his formative years in the Grande Prairie area of Alberta. During WW II he enlisted with the RCAF and was stationed in Tofino and Sea Island, BC. In 1947, he started his career as a streetcar driver in Vancouver and retired as a BC Hydro bus driver in 1979. The passengers loved him and his calm and cheerful demeanour made him perfect for the job. Peter will be remembered by everyone who knew him as fun-loving with a great sense of humour and always with a positive outlook on life. He was a wonderful husband and father who particularly enjoyed his vacations trailer camping with his family. He was active in his community of Burnaby and was a soccer coach and cub/scout leader in his younger years. Peter also enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, painting, wood carving, and playing cards. He was proud of his home with its beautifully manicured lawn and garden. During his retirement Peter and Leigh enjoyed many outings usually taking bus trips to their favourite walking and picnicking spots. The family extends their gratitude to doctors Dyment, Burns and Mosley, and to the Seton Villa, Bayshore and George Derby staff for their loving care.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18 at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice in Peter's memory.
