Sonia Castelluccio

May 25, 1942 — Aug 24, 2026

North Vancouver

In loving memory of our mother, Renee Sonia Castelluccio Brianthe, who passed away on August 24, 2026. She is survived by her daughters Nancy and Stella, and her grandsons Matthew and Mitchell. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends in her adopted country of Canada and family and friends in Uruguay and other parts of the world.

Our mother was a fun loving and gregarious woman, who was always ready to plan a party, a barbeque or a dance for our family and friends. Sonia was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and married Carlos Castelluccio. They emigrated to Canada in 1969 and made a life in Vancouver raising their two daughters, Nancy and Stella. Sonia loved her grandchildren, Matthew and Mitchell, and was proud to see them grow up to be the wonderful young adults they are now. Her grandsons were able to have her close and develop a dear relationship with her over the years.

Even though she was proud to be Canadian, her love of Uruguay and its culture never left her. She was instrumental in establishing Club Uruguay whose purpose was to promote Uruguayan culture and was key to the management and direction of the Club for over two decades. Our mother treated everyone with love and warmth wanting to make them feel welcome. She helped to ensure that the Club’s events were welcoming and fun whether you from Uruguay or not and whether you were an adult, teenager or child. The Club Uruguay events were pivotal in our youth as they were for many others. The Club events will be remembered fondly by many people who found community far away from their country or for those that grew up in Canada but wanted a link to Uruguay and South American culture.

Mom, you were the glue to our family here in Canada. Your dancing spirit will live on in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on September 26, 2026 at the Kearney Columbia-Bowell Chapel, located at 219 6th Street, New Westminster.
