Terry Ohashi – our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 6th, 2025, just a week shy of his 69th birthday. He was born on February 13th, 1956, and in his 68 years of life, he touched the hearts of everyone he met. Terry was the kind of person who would quietly come to the aid of others without expecting anything in return. His kindness, generosity, and commitment to his family and friends knew no bounds, and his impact on those around him will be felt forever.
Terry was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Linda; a proud father to his two children, Jennaby (and Andrew) and Rainer (and Olivia); and a loving brother to his sibling (Ross). He cherished his role as a grandparent to his two grandchildren, Zoe and Aiden, who endearingly referred to him as their “Da”. Terry found joy in the simplest things in life – like sharing a cup of coffee with his son after work, being a font of information for his daughter, watching British crime dramas with his wife, and creating extravagant homemade pinatas for his grandchildren’s birthday parties. He believed these small moments were the true essence of life, and he made sure to cherish them.
Professionally, Terry worked for many years as an IT Specialist, a field that was particularly suited to his meticulous nature and love for problem-solving. His attention to detail in every aspect of life was unparalleled. Terry also had a unique habit of documenting absolutely everything – leaving a literal paper trail of memories, stories, and lessons, for those who would come after him.
In 2019, Terry was diagnosed with metastatic cancer, but he faced this challenge with unshakable determination, insisting that life would continue to be filled with joy and purpose. He faced his illness with the same kind of unwavering strength and resilience that defined his life, and he kept his focus on loving his family and finding joy in all the small moments.
Terry’s family would like to express their deepest and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Telio and the entire team at the Burnaby Hospital’s Oncology Unit for the extraordinary care that Terry received. In lieu of flowers, Terry’s family would graciously accept donations for the Oncology Unit at Burnaby Hospital to help support the marvelous and compassionate work they continue to do for families like ours.
