It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter Rogers on July 2,2024 at the age of 93. Wally was born in Calder, Saskatchewan on September 1, 1930 to Stephen and Annie Rohatynsky. He was predeceased by his precious grandson, Chace Nicol in 2023.He will be deeply missed by his wife of 72 years, Nora and forever remembered by his four children, son, Wayne (Linda), daughter, Debbie(Ken) Moore, Kim (Orlando) Bokor, Carrie (Darren) Nicol and beloved grandchildren, Brodie, Jessica (Josh) and Colby.
As a young child, Wally’s family moved from Saskatchewan and settled in Vancouver where he attended John Oliver Secondary School. He was active in many sports, rugby, playing baseball for the PT Clippers in Vancouver, swimming at Kitsilano Pool, ice skating at Trout Lake, and playing tennis well into his senior years.
He was a passionate reader, chess player and loved listening to music. Wally was an avid gardener, taking pride in growing vegetables, prize chrysanthemums and building intricate birdhouses. His grandchildren were always delighted in helping “Pa “with his garden.
Wally worked for Canada Customs for 30 years and participated in several World and Police Fire Games in doubles tennis. He and Nora enjoyed cruises to Alaska and Hawaii.
His family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate and caring nurses and aides at Jackman Manor and George Derby Centre for their unwavering support.
A private family service will be held.
