William Charles Mainland, 77, left us peacefully on July 25th, 2025, surrounded by family. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Bill will always be remembered for his love of sports, his backyard and talking about the stock market.
Born on December 10th, 1947, in Trail, British Columbia, Bill grew up the second of three sons to William and Catherine Mainland. When he wasn’t playing hockey or baseball, Bill was “shooting the onions” in the Columbia River.
Bill moved to Williams Lake in 1969 to play hockey for the Williams Lake Stampeders. Here he met and married Heather Jackson on November 10th, 1970. He had two children and built a home in the community coaching his kids’ sports and as the owner of the local NAPA auto parts store for many years.
The biggest thrill of Bill’s life was the birth of his grandson Jackson in 2007 and his granddaughter Brighton in 2010. He moved to Coquitlam BC in 2009 to be closer to them. The best times of his life were then spent watching his grandchildren play lacrosse, basketball, ninja – you name it, he never wanted to miss a game… and he never wanted to lose.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Heather, daughter Janet (Evan) and son Bill (Leah), grandchildren Jackson and Brighton Myers, brother Don (Karen), and a beloved extended family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Catherine, his brother Alan and his three nephews Glen, Korbin, and Shane.
No service will be held as per Bill’s wishes. But think of him if we get Blue Jays vs Cubs World Series this year!
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice are encouraged.
