It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Zeus Xerxes Godwin D. Custodio on October 8, 2025, in Burnaby, B.C. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and loved ones, at the age of 79.
Born on August 12, 1946, in Manila, Philippines, Zeus later migrated to Vancouver, Canada, in 1968. It was there that he met “the girl he was going to marry,” Gilda, in 1970, who would become his partner for the next 54 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four children: Gene, Earl, Erica, and Edward.
Though he had many talents, like his smooth tenor singing voice, Zeus was most known for two things: being a nice guy and being a tough guy. Everyone who knew him on his good side remembers his warmth, humor, and generosity. He led with kindness: a friendly smile, a dry joke, a firm handshake, or a tight hug. These were his calling cards to family, friends, and everyone in between. “He’s such a great guy” was a common refrain from anyone who met him. As he liked to say, “You can always get further when you’re nice.”
But those who knew Zeus well also knew his other side: the tough guy who never backed down. “Always be nice until you don’t have to,” and “Never start it, but always finish it,” were among his favorite sayings. Feisty and resilient, he faced life and its challenges with grit and courage until the very end.
Above all, Zeus was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family deeply and was cherished by them in return. He is survived by his wife, Gilda, his four children (Gene, Earl, Erica, and Edward), their spouses (Terri, Grace, Mike, and Sheree), and his eight beloved grandchildren: Mio, Ia, Alex, Talia, Bishop, Koa, Damian, and Lily.
His passion, strength, and love will be remembered always.
