Pontellini, Raffaela born in Serra San Bruno, Calabria, Italy passed away peacefully at Royal Columbian Hospital surrounded by her family on June 9, 2016 at the age of 81. Predeceased by husband Adriano, survived by sons Giuseppe, Fernando (Francine), Mario, grandsons Adriano, Angelo. Loved and missed by a large family of brothers and sisters, Salvatore (Sandra), Vittoria (Pasquale), Cosmo (Susan), Nicola (Debbie), Maria (Henry), Antonio (Elizabeth), Maria Grazia (Ken), Vincenzina (Glenn) with a multitude of nieces and nephews and friends.
Raffaela immigrated to Canada with her family at age 25 where she met her fun-loving and loyal husband Adriano. She soon after became a devoted and consciencous mother and wife to her three sons. When the children were all of school age, Raffaela worked a split shift for many years as a kitchen helper at the Vancouver Golf Club. She also loved to tend her gardens, trees, plants and flowers both inside and outside the house. Raffaela was revered for her cooking. Her lasagna was always the main feature at the extended family gatherings.
Raffaela was fond of travelling, taking several long trips back to Italy with her family, as well as many summer vacations and related getaways with her husband and their many friends. She always prided herself on learning the local language wherever she would visit.
Raffaela will always be remembered for her calm, kind demeanour, her pensive and considerate manner, and her great big heart of gold.
Prayers will be held at 6PM on Wednesday June 15 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church 315 Walker St, Coquitlam BC. Memorial service will be held at 11AM on Thursday June 16 at Fatima Catholic Church followed by entombment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
