Quite The Life

On Tuesday , my father Jozsef Krajnyak passed away. A year earlier he was diagnosed with cancer, and as recently as three weeks ago, we were told he had two-three years to live. Dad's life was more the one of novels than that of the father of three boys in a suburb of Vancouver and some farmer's son from a small village in Hungary. From smuggling food to neighbours during the Russian occupation, to becoming a jet engine machinist (he wanted to be a pilot but was labeled a flight risk), to convincing my mom he was the man for her, and for things that seem a little unbelievable, Dad lived life to the fullest. There was very little that he set his mind to that he didn't accomplish. He instilled in his three sons a love of the outdoors and none of us are afraid of hard work, thanks to both him and my mother, who passed away at the same hospice ten years ago. He lived a full life as anyone who knew him would agree, and, if you knew him and he liked you, he probably fixed something of yours. He had quite the life.
