Grandpa came back to Toronto for a visit and to help a friend.
I had a free day so I asked if he would like to get together for a few hours.
I took him to the Intercontinental hotel, which at that point was still a classic hotel lounge complete with deep leather chairs and a piano player. We enjoyed a drink and some good chats.
As we neared the end of our drink I suggested we go across to the ROM (Museum in Toronto) and see the Pearl and precious gem exhibit they had on. He spent some years in that industry.
Grandpa finished his drink and paused... and said "I've spent a big part of my life looking at those. Not sure why we should do that now."
I laughed and suggested he might prefer staying at the lounge. He whole heartedly agreed.
I like to think, and I'm pretty sure I'm right, that he just wanted to have more time sitting and talking and laughing with me.
One of my favourite memories.
He is and will be greatly missed.
