Obituary for Scott Steele

Scott Steele
STEELE, Gregory Scott
May 26, 1949 - October 13, 2017

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Scott Steele. Scott will be eternally missed by the love of his life and his wife of 48 years, Pat (nee Balogh), his daughters Kimberly (Curt) Stewart, Kelly (Kurt) Thomas and his beloved grandchildren, Kyla, Kelsey, Steele & Jade. He will also be dearly missed by his brother Doug (Pat) Steele, his sister Gwen (Robin) Rees and his Uncle Gary (Dianne) Walker as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends spread across the country.

Scott was born in Kipling, Saskatchewan where he grew up playing hockey and baseball and driving fast in his green Dodge Coronet. Pat and Scott met early on (Grade 2) and after many years of friendship they fell in love and got married in 1969. After getting his electrical journeyman ticket in Moose Jaw, Scott, Pat, and Kim, left the Prairies and made their way to B.C. in 1972. Kelly was born in 1973 and they moved into their family home in Coquitlam where they remained for 29 years.

Scott’s working days on the West Coast included 30 years as an electrician, contractor and business owner before he turned his energy into building homes in Osoyoos where he and Pat “retired” in 2001. They returned to the coast moving to Pitt Meadows in 2016. Scott was a respected amateur ball and soccer coach and a passionate part time curler. He golfed, hunted, fished and played old timers hockey with his buddies and smiled more days than he didn’t. In his later years, it was Scott’s love of his family and his unwavering focus on his grandchildren’s sports and school activities that gave him his greatest joy.

We draw strength from knowing that after fighting so very hard this past year Scott now rests, free of pain. While his journey with us on earth is now complete, Scott’s spirit and strength will live on through all who knew him. There will be no service at Scott’s request. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to BC Children’s Hospital or the BC Cancer Agency.
