Obituary for David Hale Johnstone

David Hale Johnstone
JOHNSTONE, David Hale
February 24, 1925 - November 12, 2017

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear David. Predeceased by Sisters Barbara (Bill) Young and Janet (Duke) Abbott, Brothers Bill (Pud) Johnstone, Jim Johnstone (May) and John Johnstone. Survived by Wife Patricia Johnstone, Daughters Lynda McLaughlin and Susan McLeod, Sister Jean (Bob) Juulsen, Grandchildren Carly McLeod, Duncan McLeod, Bridget Russell (Eric), Gordon McLeod (Melissa), Kyle McLaughlin and Megan McLaughlin, Great-Granddaughter Brooklyn Russell. Many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

David was born in Ayrshire, Scotland before immigrating to Nova Scotia as a boy. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces in Europe during WWII. After returning home he continued service with the Canadian Armed Forces for his working career, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer. He met and married the love of his life Patricia in 1979, and his family grew by three that day. David's loving nature embraced Pat's two young daughters Susan and Lynda. He loved to have fun, whether golfing, learning to fly gliders, skiing or just enjoying friends and family. Into retirement Pat and David would holiday in Hawaii and Palm Springs. The two would adventure through Europe and Mexico laughing, loving and learning.

David had a giving spirit, volunteering at George Derby Centre for Veterans for 20+ years, where he was cared for during his final few months. He had a great love for all animals, whether it be dogs, cats, birds, or even the chickens in the coop. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the SPCA. He was an easy going, caring, fun loving guy who would always go out of his way to help others.

He will be deeply missed and always remembered. Service to be held on, Saturday November 18, 2017 at 10 a.m., at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam.
