Obituary for Dianne Elizabeth Walker (Leary)

Dianne Elizabeth Walker (Leary)
Dianne Elizabeth Walker passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the age of 76 years. Dianne is survived by her three children; Stan (Debbie), Lisa (Dave) and children Ashley and Nicholas, and Cindy (Jeff) and daughter Amanda. The grandchildren absolutely adored their “Nana” but are comforted knowing she has been reunited with “Gramps.” Dianne was predeceased by her beloved husband Jim in 2005, her parents Howard and Elsie Leary, brother Richard and sister Kristine.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Dianne met the love of her life Jim Walker at CMHC Ottawa and they were married in 1958. Over the next 20 years Jim was transferred often and the Walker family enjoyed living all across Canada. They moved from Ottawa to Sarnia, where Stan was born, to Toronto, then Edmonton where Lisa and Cindy were born. Dianne was a devoted stay-at-home Mom to her three children. When she was not busy tending to her kids, she enjoyed curling and bridge club. In 1971 the Walkers were transferred to the Maritimes where they spent five great years in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The last stop for the family was a move to Vancouver in 1977. Once the kids graduated, Jim & Dianne eased into an early retirement, moved to Vernon and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Their favorite song was “On the Road Again” and Jim & Dianne would pack up the RV and head South after Christmas. For the next 15 years they spent winters in all of their favorite spots including the East Coast, Arizona, Palm Springs and Las Vegas. Their activity schedule included motorcycling, hiking, biking and exploring new territory in the Suzuki 4x4. Most of all they just enjoyed being with each other, it really was the perfect last chapter to a beautiful love story.

The family would like to thank Oncologist Dr. Lee Ann Martin, and all the staff and volunteers at the Crossroads Hospice Society for their compassionate and loving care of our mother during her short illness.

As per Dianne’s wishes there will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place. The family will be spreading Jim & Dianne’s ashes near Kalamalka Lake in Vernon.

“Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile.”
