Life Story for Douglas Mathew "Doug" Neis

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Mathew Neis, 74, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Doug struggled with declining health and left us in the early hours of Monday, September 5th, 2016.

Doug was born on March 7, 1942 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, the youngest child of 5 born to Mathew & Mona Neis. The family moved to Kylemore Saskatchewan where Doug attended grade school and later attended high school in Wadena. Doug's father, Matt was a carpenter and Doug worked with him until he left for Regina where he met his wife Audrey in 1961. Later they moved to Thompson, Manitoba, where he worked at the INCO Mines and later for the Hydro sites at Longspruce, Manitoba. In 1977 they moved to BC and settled in Port Moody where Doug worked for the City of Port Moody as an Equipment Operator for 20 years until he retired due to ill health.

Doug loved curling and was a member of the Branch 119 Legion Curling club for 30 years where he curled with his son Daryl and grandson Kyle. He enjoyed travelling to the Cariboo to hunt with his brother in law Dave and to skidoo and fish with his son Dain and his grandchildren Ashley, Megan and Matt. He hunted geese in Saskatchewan with his brothers in law Roy and Herb and nephew Wendel. He loved camping and enjoyed many trips in his truck and 5th wheel. Doug loved to travel going to Mexico, Maui, Alaska, Yellowknife, and a special trip driving around 7countries in Europe with Audrey and their daughter Lori. Doug was a good mechanic and did all the work on his cars before they became computerized. He enjoyed cooking big family meals and smoking fish. Doug will be fondly remembered for his sly sense of humour, many rocking shuffleboard tournaments and his willingness to visit over a cold beer and a game of crib. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Audrey(Ludwig).
