Obituary for Jozsef Krajnyak

Jozsef Krajnyak
KRAJNYAK, Jozsef

It is with fond memories and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Papa. Dad passed away peacefully, on June 21, 2016.

Dad was predeceased by our mother, Anna (Dec.2006). Also predeceased are his father(Istvan), mother(Zsofia), brothers(Istvan and Laszlo) and sister(Julia) of Hungary. He is survived by his youngest sibling, Margit, also of Hungary.

Dad/Papa will be deeply missed by his sons, Joseph(Leanne), Bela and John, as well as by his grandchildren, Steven(Shantini), Brianna, Matthew, Cameron, Kyle and Joel.

Dad's journey to Canada began with our mother, Anna, as they emigrated from Hungary to Canada during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. His determination to forge a new beginning, defined how he lived his life.
As a new immigrant, Dad took pride in being a 'new Canadian'. He took on whatever work he could, in order to be successful and support his family.

A highly skilled mechanic, we marveled at his knowledge and abilities. To us, it seemed there was very little Dad couldn't fix, rebuild or create. Those who worked with Dad also recognized that he possessed a very unique and advanced skill set. From Dad, we learned the value of hard work, responsibility and doing your best at what you do.

Papa cherished his grandchildren. They were an important part of his life. He enjoyed watching them grow up and took interest and pride in their individual accomplishments. Rarely short of Papa advice, he also never hesitated to share his favourite stories about the times he spent with them.

Dad loved the outdoors and we recall the many family 'camping adventures' during our summer holidays. We all realized that the simple things in life were often the most enjoyable.

Outdoor recreation was an integral part of Dad's life. He loved hiking and seeking out adventures; often having to be reminded to be safe! In his later years, we were struck by his determination to take on very long walks. Strong legs and a strong will kept Dad active until it was no longer an option.

Everything about Dad was straightforward. We will remember Dad for his determination, for his conviction in doing what he believed he needed to do, for his concern for his family and the loyalty he showed to those he cared for.

The family thanks those who befriended Dad/Papa and who also came to care for him over the years.
Dad was a unique man, and those who knew him well, knew and recognized the gifts he possessed, and understood the person he was.

Each of us has our special memories. We take comfort in those memories and in knowing Dad/Papa is now at peace. We miss him now, and forever will remember him.

A gathering of family and close friends will be held. Please call (778) 891-3437 for further details.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crossroads Hospice Society (Port Moody), in honour of our appreciation for the care and compassion they extended to our father during his final days.
