Mom was so fair skinned, she could never be accused of being a sun worshipper. Summers saw her hiding under her floppy hat and those awful over-your-glasses sunglasses that she and Dad always wore. She was fond of reminding us to wear our sunscreen each year, and hated when I was a sun-worshipping teenager baking in the sun for hours on our back porch
Mom didn't learn to swim until she was an adult. I remember swimming at SFU pool as a child. My brother and I would swim in circles around her, as she swam lengths at the side. How annoyed she would become with us when we playfully tried to get between her and the safety of the pool edge!!
She enjoyed going to Harrison Hot Springs, and I remember on our last visit together, she lay for over an hour floating peacefully with her head resting on my shoulder as we splashed warm water over her. Though icy cold rain fell on her face, she didn't complain.
Our last family vacation was a cruise to West Caribbean. She was so happy to have her whole family reunited! And the food was good, too!
