Always Welcome

Miro, Elisabeth and their family have been in my life for 26 years.  I met them when I was 10 years old and have been honoured to be part of their extended family ever since then.

The one thing that I will always remember about Miro is that he was always so happy to see me!  I would get a huge smile and a warm hug from him every single time I saw him.  This may seem like a small thing, but it meant so much to me. No matter what, he always made me feel welcome.

I have enjoyed so many lovely memories with this family.  If we happened to stop by in the afternoon there always seemed to be fresh coffee ready and something delicious to eat.  I could always tell that Miro loved the treats that Elisabeth made for those coffee breaks. I loved listening to the stories he would tell from time-to-time about how he met his beautiful wife, what his daughters were up to, or what his life was like when he was young.

He also seemed to really like my Mom's cooking, which was quite a compliment I think - he was known to be a rather picky eater.

Something else I noticed about Miro is that he always had a great sense of style.  I remarked on his 70th birthday that he still looked very handsome!

He was always a very good sport as well.  Whether we were playing board games like Pictionary at the dining table after one of my Mom's dinner parties, or dressing up in crazy outfits for Hallowe'en, he was always happy to join the fun.  He seemed to take pleasure in the simple things in life, like watching people from a cafe, or spending time at the lake with his family.

I will certainly miss him very much and my heart hurts for his family.   I take comfort in believing that he will always be with us in spirit, and he will be watching over his family that he was always so proud of.
