Muriel Menzies
Feb. 5/2016

Muriel Menzies ( Suitor ), born March 27, 1923, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2016 with family at her side. Muriel was predeceased by her loving husband Wilson, sister Phyllis Hatcher, brother Dick Suitor and son-in-law Terry Hartley. Muriel is loved and missed by her daughters Karen Hartley and Diane Cichos ( Andy ), grandchildren Cole (Heather), Troy(Angie) and Kelly Hartley, Brad Cichos, and Carla Reti (Jordan), and great-grandchildren Tyler & Meghan; Makena, Devyn & Kai; Laurel, Troy & Theodore; sister-in-law Kathy Suitor, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Muriel was born in Lacombe Alberta and in 1932 moved with the family to a dairy farm in Sherbrooke, Quebec, where she later graduated as a Registered Nurse. She re-joined her retired parents in Victoria, where she met and married the love of her life Wilson in 1947. After moving their young family to Coquitlam, Muriel was an active member of their church and eventually returned to work as a RN. In 1981 she founded the first ‘Widows Helping Others’ ( WHO ) group in Coquitlam. She also received a Canadian Government “Certificate of Merit” for her many contributions to the community. Muriel and Wilson enjoyed traveling the world, but especially their camping and Disneyland trips with each grandchild and walking in the sand at Parksville.

Special thanks to Belvedere Care Centre. Muriel’s life will be honoured in a private family celebration. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society Canada at www.alzheimer.ca.
