Obituary for Nita Alice Jean Davidson (Straker)

Nita Alice Jean Davidson (Straker)
Nita Alice Jean Davidson born November 21, 1932 in Melville, Saskatchewan, died Friday, July 8, 2016 in Port Moody BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice in 2006.

Nita was raised first in Dubuc, Saskatchewan and later north of Bangor, also in Saskatchewan. She graduated from Yorkton General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1954. Nita began her career as a public health nurse at Fort Qu’Appelle and then continued in community nursing in Kelowna, BC. After her marriage in 1959, she moved with her husband Maurice to Victoria, BC where they raised two children. She began work in Psychiatric Nursing: first at Capital Mental Health and later at the Victoria Mental Health Centre. She was a passionate advocate for the mentally ill.

Nita took special joy in her grandchildren, Nicholas and Marie. She is survived by her son Neil (Jessie) of Seal Beach, California and daughter Lynn (Mark) of Coquitlam, BC, brother Murray (Barbara), sister Gail, brother Lyle (Jean), brother Jim (Debbie), and sister Merle (Vernon), as well as numerous other caring family members and friends. Their love and support sustained her through a long struggle with a rare respiratory disease and debilitating chronic pain.

A Celebration of Nita’s life will be held on November 26th. If desired, donations in her memory may be made to the BC Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
