The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Grant Sheffer can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

Young Grant and his legacy

In the early '70's I hired a young physics undergraduate, Grant Sheffer, to work with me as a technical expert on the old SFU Neutron Generator. His first job was repairing an older turbo pump and he did it. In the mid '70's we went to TRIUMF and he assisted with the successful installation of a novel gas jet system on the proton beam line, BL4A. He then joined TRIUMF formally as while I Iost a great technical assistant, we continued to work closely on many projects. The picture I uploaded was Grant as part of experimental group studying proton induced reactions. One major story about Grant is how he helped organized the series of lectures by Nobel prize winner, Prof. Richard Feynman from Cal Tech in the '70's at SFU. Feynman did two trips and great lectures for an overflowing undergraduate audience, and Grant played a key role in this. Grant will be missed.
