The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Michael Chew can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Mike

Working at BC Place was always a treat because of the wonderful co-workers.  Pre-eminent among them was Mike Chew ….. a truly special person.  Whether working a shift, going to a diner or restaurant, Happy Valley or Shatin horse racing in the early morning, a Seahawks game or Christmas Party,  Mike was in his element and enjoying life while at the same time making sure that everyone else was as well.  Helpful to new staff and kibitzing with old, he made everyone feel welcome.  I always enjoyed his control room visits because it provided an opportunity to talk.

At the BC Lions games, his close friend Al Fong, would order either Pizza or Greek and we would sit and enjoy it during the half-time. During this time there would be a large number of people who would always go out of their way to come over and say hi to Mike and this continued for most of his shift.  People respected Mike and he respected them.  To me this respect sums up what a truly caring and wonderful person he was.  He showed pride in his family and friends, and modesty of self.  He made a big difference in my life and I know for many others.
