I have so many stories I could tell, especially as summer students working for Westar Timber. One I remember fondly was when Paul and I were forestry students back in the late 80s living in a company house in Hazelton, BC. After work was never a dull moment. One weekend evening we managed to buy 200 jack sockeye salmon the DFO were selling on the side of the road (one year old fish destroying the spawning beds so they were extracted from the rivers). They were $1 a piece so we couldn't refuse. That night we cleaned and canned every last one of them until 4 in the morning. I seem to remember we weren't all that sober either. Had to have frequent breaks with beer and firing all the old bear flares we had. It was a crazy evening. The fishing continued throughout the summer, just about every river or lake we passed we would stop and try the fishing, usually with great luck. Those were fun times and ones I will always remember.
Years later I managed to catch up with Paul again when he and Susanna came to visit our cabin on Ruxton Island. We had a fantastic visit and it was great fun reminiscing about those summers past. I will miss him. Rest in peace my friend.
Jeff
