The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Philip Glaister can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

It’s so true that through our relationships with others, we learn more about ourselves. Through my early relationship with Phil I learned while there was an invisible line drawn between his desk and mine, Phil pushed this line back to the point he was able to relinquish the authority to oversee/micromanage staff. This created an atmosphere of trust. I learned I could communicate with Phil in an interactive way while he encouraged me to value my work as a therapist and to aim for positive outcomes rather than being frustrated and give up. At other times, dealing with hardship and disappointment, Phil pushed this line back to the point he chose to take what he referred to as the “high road”. Over the years, I learned Phil directed his life based on the wisdom and knowledge that accumulates from a belief in compassion and caring. It reinforced the belief that as someone grows in wisdom as he did; they willingly strive to understand the deeper meaning of life experiences. I will miss the relationship I knew with Phil. I think we can agree we all had a ‘unique relationship’ with him. Whether it was his engagement in conversations, his wit or hearty laughter, what made it so unique was the gift Phil shared with us, his gift to connect and to make connection. Again, by realizing this is something we all share, we learn something about ourselves. Notably, with our memories of Phil forever remaining in our hearts, we learn we can transform the notion of how family is defined, embracing the belief that family is not always defined by bloodlines but by whom we hold in our heart. Hilary, Sterling, Stephanie and Aidan as each of you carry on I pray you find comfort in the love Phil held for you and in your special memories of him. On behalf of my entire family and me, please accept our very deepest condolences and sympathy.
